Consent once and the balance refills below your threshold — at most once a day, never past your monthly ceiling. Failed provider calls are refunded.
How topping up works
- Your agent tells you. When the balance runs out, your agent hands you a top-up link, then retries the same call once you pay. Credits appear seconds after payment.
- Check any time. Ask your agent "what's my apifare balance?", or open your balance page and paste your key. There's no login: your key is your account.
- Or never think about it. Turn on auto-refill once, and the balance refills itself within the limits you set.
FAQ
Common questions
Do I need a separate account with each provider?
No — for eligible capabilities there is no separate provider account: one apifare key routes the call and your balance pays the listed price. For restricted platforms you vault your own key (BYOK) and apifare meters it at a flat 0.1 credit.
A provider call failed — am I charged?
No. Failed provider calls are refunded automatically as a compensating credit on the append-only ledger, referenced to the call id.
How is pricing structured?
Per call, in credits (1 credit = $0.01). The price listed on /capabilities is exactly what your balance is debited — CI fails our own build if page copy and billing ever drift.
How do I get started?
Paste one line to your agent — set up https://apifare.com/SKILL.md — and it does everything: key, config, first call ($5 of calls free). No agent open? Get a key, then give it to your agent (every client has a setup guide).
What happens when the balance runs out?
Calls stop at zero. Your agent hands you a top-up link: pay by card, and it retries the same call. With auto-refill on, the balance tops up within the limits you set.
How do I check my balance?
Ask your agent "what's my apifare balance?": it answers with your balance and your personal top-up link. Or open your balance page and paste your key to see your balance, latest calls and auto-refill status. There's no login: your key is your account.
How do I top up after the free $5?
Three ways, no login needed: pay the top-up link your agent hands you when the balance runs out (or whenever you ask it for one), use the top-up buttons on your balance page, or turn on auto-refill once and the balance refills itself within the limits you set.
Do credits expire?
Trial credits expire 14 days after signup; purchased credits do not expire. Credits are not cash: they can't be cashed out or transferred between accounts.

What stops my agent overspending?
Prepaid balance (hard stop at zero), per-agent daily/monthly caps and allowlists, a kill switch effective on the agent's next call, and a signed audit chain of every call, deny, and payment. Auto-refill only ever runs with your recorded consent, under your ceiling, and parks itself on any card failure.
Can I use my own API keys?
Yes. Vault a provider key once through a one-time link: it is encrypted per-tenant at rest, decrypted only in memory at call time, never logged, and no endpoint returns it. apifare meters those calls at a flat 0.1 credit; your provider account pays the provider.
Do you see my data?
We log call metadata (route, price, latency, status), never the request or response bodies of your API calls. Card numbers stay with Stripe. Details: privacy.
How does my agent find what to call?
It searches with GET /v1/search?q=…; results carry their lane and listed price. People can browse the tool catalog and the API guides.
Can I offer this to my own users?
